Fossil-free. Non-toxic. High-performance.
Problem
Current adhesives are:
Petroleum-based & CO₂-intensive
Conventional adhesives are made from petroleum, consume energy during production, cannot be easily recycled, and therefore harm the environment.
Contain harmful substances
68% of all wood adhesives contain carcinogenic formaldehyde.
These pollutants are released into indoor air over time and pose health risks. Another 13% contain isocyanates, which are toxic during processing for users.
OUR SOLUTION
Our adhesive is made entirely from natural proteins, free from toxic additives, and therefore safe for humans and the environment.
We have developed a new platform technology that allows us to tailor proteins specifically for our adhesives. This enables the use of various natural protein sources – including those from residual material streams. Unlike conventional protein-based adhesives, our products require no chemical crosslinkers or purely natural alternatives, yet still achieve a water resistance comparable to conventional systems.
Patent-pending technology
Our platform technology is patent-pending
Non-toxic
Completely free from harmful substances such as formaldehyde
Sustainable
No fossil raw materials and reduced CO₂ emissions compared to conventional adhesives, with extended recycling options such as industrial composting or home composting

Team
It all began with a simple question:
Why isn’t there a truly sustainable wood glue?Flo regularly worked with adhesives and wood glues – and became increasingly bothered by the fact that a natural material like wood is almost always bonded together with synthetic, often harmful adhesives. The strong smell, the required safety measures, and the thought of relying on toxic substances when working with sustainable materials such as wood were increasingly frustrating. This sparked the search for an alternative to the many environmentally harmful adhesives used today in furniture, packaging, and construction materials. From early lab experiments emerged the idea for LIGARO – a glue that holds strong, stays clean, and is bio-based, non-toxic, and completely fossil-free.Today, an interdisciplinary team continues to refine the formula and bring it to market.
With each day, we move closer to our vision:
Bonding safely and sustainably - with LIGARO

SUPPORTED BY
Our team is developing a completely fossil-free, non-toxic, and biodegradable adhesive that achieves the performance of conventional wood glues while providing a sustainable alternative for the wood and furniture industry.Funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the European Union within the framework of ESF Plus enables us to realize this innovative and environmentally friendly project.
